A bit of work on the Islands 17 refit

Between a newborn and the rest of life, there hasn't been much time for sailing, or working on projects but I've managed to get a few in. I started on a new rudder head and got some trailer maintenance in.

I've started replacing the rudder head stock. So far I've traced and cut out 2 copies on 3/4" exterior ply, and 1 on some 5mm luan. It will all get a god sand, then epoxy coating. Eventually. At that point I'll dry fit and cut out the 5mm luan so the blade can rotate. Then more epoxy to glue up and seal, transfer pintles, make a new tiller coupling (maybe a new tiller?) and it's all set. Whew, describing it makes it seem like a much bigger project.

It didn't look blurry when I took it! I swear :)

Trailer maintenance included repacking the bearings, and getting a new tires on to replace the old dry rotted things that were there when I bought it last year. I also replaced the swivel jack and the rusty old ball coupler. Feeling pretty good about getting the basics done.

It's been nice to have the boat in the water this week. Unfortunately with summer afternoon storms, I haven't gotten out. Hopefully this weekend, even if it is just sailing back to put on the trailer.
